How to lodge a complaint

Optometrists are trained to diagnose and treat a wide variety of health care conditions as well as communicate their findings and recommendations with patients and care-givers. Although, the vast majority of patient experiences are positive, occasionally, the doctor-patient relationship can be strained because of many different variables.

Should a “minor” negative experience occur, we encourage patients to speak with their optometrist and/or staff to attempt to resolve the issue. Should this not be possible, or, should the negative experience involve a major competence issue or sexual impropriety, patients should contact the regulatory college in their province (please refer to the list of our members) to discuss the issue and decide on the proper course of action. All provincial regulatory colleges have complaints processes and experienced, trained individuals ready to assist you.
